Behind the scenes: Art updates and reflections

Hello everyone,

It’s a gloomy Wednesday afternoon outside my window – thick gray clouds and watery sunlight diluted by rain  – my favorite type of afternoon! In my early 20s, I used to adore those extra-bright, sunshiney days, but when I entered my 30s, I learned to appreciate the quiet melancholic charm of rainy days. I just think it softens the city a little, lending a muted glow to the usual vibrancy.

Anyway, I know it’s been some time since I updated my blog. I’ve had to prioritize many other projects and tasks, so I pushed writing aside. But I really miss it.

So if you’re reading this, thank you! 🥹 I thought I’d pop in here and share a few updates:

Switched my newsletter platform

I’ve been using Flodesk for about 2 years. I love the templates and aesthetics, but unfortunately, it was getting a bit pricey to maintain, so I decided to switch to another email platform. I’m still familiarizing myself with the new interface. If you’re subscribed to my newsletters, you can expect to receive one in the upcoming weeks!

Did a pop-up market in early May

I spent my first weekend of May doing a pop-up market in the heart of KL.

It was such an honor to be there alongside other incredibly talented local creatives and businesses – met tons of wonderful people and felt extremely loved by my dear friends and family who decided to pop in to show some love and support!

What I love most about pop-ups is the chance to form new connections. It doesn’t have to be transactional; it’s always been about the human moments in between.

I was so moved whenever someone stopped by my booth – whether to browse, hear the stories behind my art, or simply pause to say they loved the colors! Even without a purchase, those small, genuine conversations anchored in a shared appreciation for art meant so much to me.

A lot of people have asked if I’ll be doing more pop-ups soon (and I’m truly honored by that!) 😍

As much as I enjoy the human connection and the joy of sharing my works in person, pop-ups can be quite tiring.

They require a different marketing mindset – curating the right mix of products, pricing them accessibly, and accepting that not everything will sell. Preparing for markets also pulls time and energy from my other projects and commissions.

While I’m certainly still open to doing pop-ups in the future, they’re not my main focus at the moment. Right now, I’m channeling most of my time and energy to create larger artworks. ☺️

If any of this resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Launched an online sale

Right after the pop-up market ended, I took some time to rest and recharge, and then I dove back into work – prepping for this mid-year online sale. The sale is still ongoing until 8th June 2025.

The prices will increase after the sale, so feel free to browse all prints and small original artworks here and let me know if anything catches your eye!

Creating digitally

I’ve been playing around on Procreate these days, mostly in the evenings or on weekends when I’m not in the studio. I’m still very much a traditional artist at heart, and that will never change.

I enjoy watching watercolors bleed and bloom on paper, and the creamy layers and textures of acrylics and oil pastels. Much of my creative process is deeply rooted in the organic interaction of colors and the unpredictable textures that arise – it’s those spontaneous moments that set the tone of my artwork.

made via Procreate

But I do enjoy the digital aspects of Procreate, it gives me lots of room to experiment without having to worry about cleaning up (always a win!) 😂

I use it mostly to explore composition sketches and color swatches, and lately I’ve been quite interested in florals. I’m horrible at producing anything remotely realistic, of course. Lol. But I’ve just accepted that my flowers will forever look “wild” and a bit funny – so here’s my version of WILDflowers. 🤭

Thank you to everyone who sent heart emojis and kind compliments, you have no idea how much it means to me!

Little confession

So, I realized I was getting a bit detached from social media over the recent months.

Instagram is my main marketing platform, and I use Threads rather sparingly (but I’m not very vocal on Threads and I don’t update it that often), so yeah it’s mostly just Instagram.

I can totally relate to the algorithm frustrations as a creative entrepreneur, but I still try to show up and give my best.

However, there would be moments when I would feel very demotivated, and it would affect my creative flow in creating content for Instagram, whether it’s writing captions, filming, photographing, editing or deciding what to post.

That said, I’m still choosing to run my Instagram the same way I always have from the very beginning: I give it my best, but I create what I love and what brings me joy.

Sometimes, that means posting a simple Reel that I stitched together right in the Instagram app (I still haven’t figured out CapCut haha), and other times it’s just a few snippets of recent works. I trust God’s rhythm, not the algorithm.

Because the algorithm might favor you today and forget you tomorrow – but with God, even if only a few people see it, I believe that He brings the right people at the right time.

It takes lots of courage to trust the process, to not lose heart and hope, and to still show up each day with faith that God is in control over every aspect of my art and business – even when it comes to social media.

Working through my creative routine

I’m also easing back into my creative routine at the studio. In between launching the online sale, getting artworks framed and shipped, and working on commissions, I haven’t really made anything new on the canvas. My last canvas painting was Sweet Saturdays, which is still available (pardon my shameless sales plug). 🤪

Acrylic & sand on canvas, 60cm x 90cm – get in touch for more info.

So anyway, one of the things I’d like to focus on in June is creating lots of fresh canvas artworks. 😄 I also have some very exciting announcements coming up, stay tuned!

Thanks for reading, wishing all of you a lovely June!
